Kannada Literature has won 8 jnanapith awards highest for any Dravidian language and 2nd highest for any Indian language. Prakrit and pali have the highest influence on Kannada.

The script of Kannada is Kannada. It is evolved from the 5th-century kadamba script. The unique thing about Kannada script as a Dravidian language is that it is only Dravidian language capable of using not only native words and grammar in its literature but also Sanskrit words and grammar. Kannada script is extensively used for writing Sanskrit texts in Karnataka. The Kannada language has three categories of letters: svara (vowels), vyanjana (consonants), and yogavahaka (semiconsonants). Kannada script has 49 or 50 or 51 letters.
